There is something really special about photographing best friends who have grown up together. Not the kind of friendship that started last year or through social media… but the kind that began when they were little girls, running around, sharing secrets, and growing through every stage of life side by side.
These girls have known each other since childhood. The kind of friendship where their families know each other, their memories are intertwined, and their bond feels more like sisters than friends. Walking into the studio together, they already had that comfort — the laughs came easy, the posing felt natural, and the connection didn’t need direction.
You could just feel how much history was sitting between them.
One of my favorite parts of sessions like this — especially here in my New Hampshire studio — is seeing that transition. They still giggle like they did when they were kids… but there’s also this confidence now.
They hyped each other up the entire time.
Fixing each other’s hair.
Laughing when one felt awkward.
Pulling each other into hugs without me even asking.
As a photographer in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, I photograph a lot of milestones — newborns, cake smashes, seniors — but friendship sessions hold their own kind of magic.
Because this stage of life goes by fast.
One day they’re little.
Then they’re teenagers.
Then they’re planning futures that might take them in different directions.
Sessions like this freeze a chapter that deserves to be remembered — not because it’s perfectly styled, but because it’s real.
